Grants and Donations to the Parish Council
Grants and Donations applied for and received by Nonington Parish Council over the last six years have allowed the PC to be active in providing better facilities for the village. The agencies require public recognition for their donations, which we have provided. However I think the following review may also be of interest to some parishioners and again advertise the agencies.

1. To acquire the lease on the land opposite the Royal Oak then to cleanup the site to provide a pleasant open space with seating and a village pond.

Grants - Single Regeneration Board (SRB) £3000 plus £1000 from the Rural Development Agency.

2. Make small basketball court in the playground.

Grant Awards for All £3638

3. Refurbish soft landing under the swings and install three Springy rides.

Grant £2924 SRB.

4. New fencing, bin and Picnic tables for the playground.

Grant £ 1003 SRB. Tables made and donated by Beechgrove Community.

5. Replace swings

Grant Awards for All £4277.

6. Replace Slide.

Grant Bridging the Gap £2479

7. Refurbishment of Ash Path

Grant £2490 KCC footpaths, £1250 Beechgrove Community, £750 Local Board (KCC).

8. Nonington village day, 9th September 2006.

Grant /Donation £750 Local board , £300 Beechgrove Community.

This brings the total amount of Grants and Donations received for 2000 –2006 to £23,861 (plus the donation of many hours of voluntary labour, to obtain the money and then to spend it achieving the project aims).

The work to obtain this money and carry out projects within the parish can in many cases only be achieved by the parish council and many organisation can or will only deal with the PC i.e. the Rural Housing Trust, others find it easier to work with an official body , i.e. KCC footpaths, roads etc.

The role of the council to work with other village organisations to promote events is growing and this was demonstrated by the success of Trafalgar Day in 2005 and the Village Day event this year.

The value of the last event was questioned by some who thought it would be a waste of money and, had the weather been bad, we may well have lost out. However, the good weather allowed the NVE group to pay all the costs and have £2,553.73 towards next years’ events.

The event was also considered to be a very good family outing with no trouble and very good value for money, and as usual, the firework team produced a superb display. An additional benefit was that all the organisations involved made some much needed money.

The Village Art Show was also held on the same weekend and I think this event is getting better every year. I hope it was enhanced by the evening entertainment.

Next May the current councils term of office will end and there will be a need to have FOUR new councillors at least, to have a full compliment. It would be a great pity not to achieve a complete and viable group when there have been such successes and there is much more available for a strong council.

If the PC is strong and active all the other organizations will benefit, so I hope that all those who want to see the village thrive in the future will consider the possibility of becoming a parish councillor.
