NONINGTON PARISH COUNCIL
Report of a meeting held in the Village Hall on Wednesday
9th July 2008
- The new Parish Council Clerk/RFO (Terry Miller) was introduced to
the Council.
- The two new sheds for storage have now been fully installed. The one
sited at Lower Lodge is of a more robust design and has had windows
removed and shelving added. The second shed has been given to the
village hall to provide extra storage, particularly for the Toddler
Group.
- Mole infestation in Playground to be looked at again using new
"percussive" equipment.
- Rural Housing Trust. No further progress. A draft plan for the
proposed site in Church Street has been drawn up and all land associated
with the proposed development is being closely looked at before the plan
can be moved forward.
- Meetings attended L.D.F. The main issue which will affect the
Parish is the development of Aylesham which is still progressing, albeit
slowly in the current economic climate. The regeneration of the Snowdown
colliery site looks increasingly unlikely a further meeting scheduled
for Monday 14th July may provide further information.
- Village Day on 20th September. This is planned to be the
biggest and best to date, with more stalls, bouncy castles, a
"Gladiators" attraction, obstacle course, jazz band and much, much more.
Almost all of the organisations in the village are taking part this
year. The question of insurance cover was raised in the meeting it was
confirmed that the Parish Council public liability cover is extended to
all stallholders and functions on the day. Tickets will cost adults £3
in advance or £4 on the day with children gaining free admission. Lets
all hope for good weather on the day.
- Roads. An informal meeting was held on 18th June with
Police and Council representatives to discuss traffic issues in the
village and propose potential solutions. Grants are available to carry
out a series of measures, which could include resiting and improving
signage, improved lighting where required, road islands etc. It was
agreed that the statistics for traffic speeds and volumes should be
obtained from Police surveys and a Public Meeting should be set up to
discuss the options available probably within the next 3-6 months.
- St Marys churchyard grass cutting the Church Warden has contacted
Plumptre Estate and FONC for assistance the Council will keep a watch
for future developments.
- Footpaths it was noted that some of the parish footpaths are
getting overgrown, especially those fields growing rapeseed. It was
agreed that the Clerk will meet with the respective farmers who own the
fields and the Footpaths Officer to resolve the various issues.
Next Parish Council Meeting Wednesday 3rd
September at 7.30 p.m in the Village Hall.
