NONINGTON PARISH COUNCIL
Report of a meeting held in the Dolphins Hall on Wednesday
14th May, 2008
- Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mr Rye however, he will
still play a strong part in the Parish Council in a more practical sense
and his ongoing help is appreciated.
- Receipt of Grant from Dover North Neighbourhood Forum. The £1,000
has now been received and this will be spent buying two new sheds for
storage. The sheds will have the windows removed and electric light
installed. The one to be sited at Lower Lodge will be of a more robust
design. The concrete has been ordered for the bases and will be poured
as soon as the weather allows. The second shed will be given to the
village hall to provide extra storage, particularly for the Toddler
Group.
- Mole infestation in Playground – to be looked at again to see if
this has now been dealt with.
- Footpath behind the Village Hall. This footpath was thought to be
unsafe at the Village Hall end and D.D.C. Footpaths Division was asked
to inspect it. A reply has been received from the Health and Safety
Manager stating that she saw no need for remedial action on safety
grounds. However she recommends that the surface be kept under review in
case of any more serious deterioration.
- Snowdown Regeneration. This looks as though it will not now go ahead
and will be left in the state it is in now. The Coalboard lease runs out
in 2042 but it is hoped that they will be able to tidy up the site
before then.
- Nightingale Charity – new Trustee. Mrs Valerie Williams has offered
to act as a new Trustee for this Charity after Mrs Onions stepped down.
- St Mary’s churchyard has no further spaces for burials. A meeting
was held at the Church by Cllrs Norton and Barnett, together with
Reverend Connoll and Ian Dodds from the Canterbury Diocese. Paul Willett
very kindly attended our Parish meeting and informed us that Churchyards
are very rarely closed now and if graves are over 100 years old the
plots can be re-used. In this case a plot has been earmarked for about
10 new sites but it is very overgrown and will need to be cut back
regularly if it is to be used. The Church allocates no money for
maintenance of the churchyard. At the moment the Beechgrove Community
helps together with Mr Willett and Mr Abbott. A man is employed to cut
the grass when needed and Mr Willett agreed to ask him to quote for
including the new section in this cut. The Plumptre Estate used to help
out with maintenance but does not do so now, however, Mr Willett said he
would be quite happy to write to them and ask if they can help out
again. Also when a quote is received regarding the extra expense the
Council may be able to make a grant towards this on a year by year
basis. The Friends of Nonington Church will be asked to consider a
greater contribution as it was not known that there was a division
between upkeep of the Church and the Churchyard.
