NONINGTON PARISH COUNCIL
Report of a
meeting held in the Village Hall on Wednesday 5th May 2010 at 19.30 hrs.
- Election of new PC Chairman – Cllr Barnett stood
down as PC Chairman.
Cllr Stradling was
elected as the next PC Chairman, with Cllr Tee elected as the PC Vice
Chairman. Cllr Stradling then warmly thanked Cllr Barnett for his hard
work as Chairman over the past 5 years and his tireless efforts in the
village, a view shared by the entire PC and parishioners alike.
- Roads improvements. The speed camera has now been
received and will be put to use around the village shortly. In an
attempt to get the roads improvements project moving again an outside
contractor has now been approached to provide a quote for the traffic
calming measures in the village.
- Nonington school traffic issues. Highways Dept
have stated that until a county wide survey on speed limits has been
carried out it will not be possible to reduce the speed limit near the
school. This will not be completed until 2012 at the earliest. However
they have agreed to see if the signage around the school can be
improved.
- Footpaths. The Snowdown footpath final handrail
modifications are still awaited.
Vicarage Lane footpath –
no further progress, still being discussed by Highways and KCC.
Ash footpaths – a
handrail has now been installed at the Holt Street end where it becomes
quite steep. Butchers Lane - Footpaths Dept have kindly agreed to install
metal bollards at the Elvington end to stop vehicular access, the bollards
are currently ordered and awaiting delivery.
- Village Green Day. The date has been set for
Saturday 29th May and notices will be put up very shortly –
all volunteers for the day are warmly welcomed.
- Annual audit – this has now been prepared for
submission and all relevant paperwork was signed off at the meeting.
- Nonington Craft and Village Fayre – the date has
been set for 19th June ( not September as erroneously stated
in the Village Magazine ). Notices publicising the event will be posted
very shortly.
- NVE status – following a brief meeting the status
of the NVE was clarified – it is an independent village committee which
makes autonomous decisions and is not a sub committee of the PC.
- The PC received a request from the Dolphins Club
for a grant to cover electrical work in the Dolphins Hall. Following a
lengthy and lively discussion it was agreed that the PC would provide a
grant for £300 covering just over half of the expense, with the NVE
generously agreeing to provide a grant for the remainder.
- There is an increasing problem of dog foul in the
village. The PC would like to remind all dog owners that it is their
moral and legal responsibility to clean up after their dogs when walking
them around the village. A short notice will also be put in the Village
Magazine to reinforce the message.
- A request was made for more waste bins around the
village. Also the bin outside the church has gone missing and needs
replacing. The Clerk will contact the Environment Dept to look at how
best to improve the current situation regarding the number, siting and
regular emptying of bins in general.
- The long standing problem of severe flooding near
the church still persists after heavy rain. Cllr Deeley is currently
discussing the issue with Highways Dept with the aim of providing a
permanent solution.
The next Parish Council Meeting will be held at the Village Hall on
7th
