NONINGTON VILLAGE ENTERTAINMENTS

(NVE)

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012

To mark 60 years of The Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.

We have been approached by Nonington Parish Council to assist in organising / co-ordinating Nonington’s celebrations for the above occasion.

Nonington has a great record for celebrating Jubilees. Some of you may remember the Silver Jubilee in1977 with St George and the Dragon navigating the roads of Nonington and the Golden Jubilee in 2002 where it was estimated 800 people took part. Both events were fantastic successes and included activities for everyone young and old.

We have been asked to contact all organisations in the village and invite them to a meeting to discuss how we can all celebrate the day. Now it just so happens that the Village Entertainments AGM is on Wednesday February 8th at 7.30pm in the Dolphins Hall so we have decided to amalgamate the two meetings to save time and get the ‘ball rolling’ as soon as possible. We will elect a new NVE committee at the meeting and all residents (over 18) of Nonington can vote. It also creates the best opportunity to elect an enthusiastic group of people (I prefer not to use the word committee) who are willing to plan Nonington’s celebration. We are fortunate to be starting with a completely blank canvas, however, the Parish Council is hoping that we can coincide the event with the opening of the new Village Pond Development.

This is an invitation to you to come along to the meeting and provide suggestions or ideas on how best we can celebrate this occasion. Also you may wish to become part of the group planning the day. If so, please  email me at  tollcot@talktalk.net

The NVE Committee:

12 positions are on offer. Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer plus up to 9 committee members. We can also co-opt extra members for specialist tasks / skills.

The rule regarding voting at an AGM applies only for the purpose of electing committee members and to qualify you must be a resident (over 18) of Nonington or you are employed in the village of Nonington, again (over the age of 18).

Unlike the Golden Jubilee this celebration runs over 4 days which gives us more flexibility in organising something that does not clash with other events.

I look forward to hearing from you soon – in the meantime take a look at the Diamond Jubilee website for ideas and suggestions, there are lots of great things happening.
